From Grant to Glory: How BEFH Empowered My Journey to the BET Stellar Awards and Beyond

JahVelle Rhone, the dynamic founder of Rhone Enterprises and the saxophonist known as "J-R saxophonic" from Kansas City, is harmonizing his musical talents with a deep commitment to social advocacy. His mission transcends the revival of '90s saxophone sounds; it's about making a significant impact in the music industry while uplifting marginalized communities. His dedication to giving back, particularly by providing musical instruments to children in need, is a testament to his character and vision.

Since receiving the Circle of Community Grant how have the grant funds assisted you in your business growth? If you have not spent the funds yet, please describe how you plan to use the funds this year.

Due to this grant, I was able to hire a management consultant that allowed me an opportunity to appear at the 2023 BET Stellar Awards! This also granted me several performance and networking opportunities with industry leaders.”

What does being a black entrepreneur in the Flint Hills mean to you?

“It means everything to be a part of an organization that not only uplifts Black Entrepreneurs but also significantly impacts and cares about its community! That is by far an incredible feeling. It always feels like a win anytime a member of the BEFH accomplishes a new goal!”

Describe the importance of having a black business community like BEFH

“This community is a wealth of knowledge that provides opportunities for minorities that in times past simply did not exist.”

Please describe a BEFH event that has helped you in your business? (ie. networking opportunities, learning something you didn't know, a feeling of community, etc.)

“I attended Black and Bankable and it helped me to understand the importance of being able to distinguish between being a business owner and being a person with a fun hobby.”

Has BEFH referred business to you this year?

“I'm sure that by sharing my content it has opened several doors and partnerships. BEFH has also connected me with Kansas Black Leadership Council and it has been an incredible partnership.”

How has BEFH supported you in your entrepreneurial journey?

“They have given me the support, tools, and resources to take my business to another level.”
